I still can’t believe that a kind of “Mini Maniano Choral Festival” just took place right here in Des Moines, Iowa — culminating in a performance where I had the honor of conducting my own piece, Come to Me.

This happened during “Philippines to the Plains: United in Song” — a concert organized by Dr. James Rodde of Iowa State University, featuring the Male Ensemble Philippines. The event brought together over 300 singers from six incredible ensembles: Johnston Cantus, Waukee High School A Cappella, Waukee High School Cantate, Des Moines Choral Society, Iowa State Singers, and the Male Ensemble Philippines.

It’s been two full, inspiring days of music-making — an experience that was both enriching and unforgettable. I’m deeply grateful for the chance to visit, work with, and listen to each of these choirs, while also sharing stories about Philippine culture and our vibrant choral scene.

A heartfelt thank-you to Tony Dam, Hannah Ryan, and most especially to Dr. James Rodde — none of this would have been possible without your belief, support, and generosity in bringing my music to life. Thank you for saying yes, for the connections you’ve made possible, and for the gift of this unforgettable musical journey.

Beyond grateful. #DeoGratias
