The text is meant to be a kind of gentle persuasion for one to take control of one’s circumstance. The word “Padayon”, from the Visayan language that means “to continue”, simply captures the idea behind this work. At the end of the chant, all players count one to ten while clapping their hands. If anyone looses count, the player gets his ears pinched. English Translation: Mother, Father, want bread, Sister, Brother, I want coffee You will do exactly as I say, anyone who doesn't will have to pay (ear pinched.) Larong Pambata Suite is a collection of short pieces based on traditional games that children used to frequently play on the streets in several parts of the Philippines. Composed with used of varied sound production, sprechstimme, body percussion, and improvisation to recreate the playfulness and creativity children possessed so naturally, back when wonder and curiosity were free to roam a much simpler world. The piece aims to create a playful yet compelling dialogue between the two coirs that turns out into a one massive paean. Infused with a delicate balance between the pentatonic and altered double phrygian tonalities to incorporate both sounds of a typical Asian tune and of the Spanish gypsies. The piece is also furnished with percussion instruments to have this festive and regal feel of the Sinulog Festival.
